In Times of Need: Supporting Our Community – Dr. Gary K. Michelson Shares a Message of Support

“In times of crisis, our community comes together to support one another. We stand united with Los Angeles as we face the devastating wildfires. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this disaster.”

– Dr. Gary K. Michelson, Founder of Michelson Found Animals

The profound impact of these wildfires on our community deeply saddens us. Our thoughts and compassion are with all those affected. Founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, our organization was built on the belief that community resilience is key, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting our fellow Angelenos through this difficult time.

We are actively engaging with our animal welfare partners and are prepared to assist with evacuation efforts. In coordination with local elected officials and pet-friendly evacuation shelters, we are mobilizing to provide essential food and supplies for pets and their owners in need.

Today, Michelson Found Animals received 40 pallets (33,696 pounds or 17 tons) of donated dog food at our Better Neighbor Project warehouse in Inglewood. Greater Good Charities, a global nonprofit, who swiftly procured and delivered the food, is on the ground to partner with MFA to urgently distribute these much-needed resources to pet-friendly fire evacuation centers across Los Angeles County to support displaced residents and their pets during this critical time.

Deliveries are expected to commence as soon as this evening. Distribution of dog food directly to those in need will be handled by the evacuation shelters receiving these donations. Supplies will be available, free of charge, for any impacted dog owner.

“In times of crisis, it is vital that communities come together to support one another. We stand united with Los Angeles as we face these devastating wildfires. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this disaster.” said Dr. Gary K Michelson, “Families need help right now, and we are grateful to Greater Good Charities for their partnership in the speedy delivery of essential goods to Angelenos and their beloved pets in need.”

“Within hours of the outbreak of the fires, Greater Good Charities was already mobilizing our response,” said Liz Baker, CEO of Greater Good Charities. “This donation is an important part of our larger response to provide critically needed aid to those affected: from displaced families and unhoused populations to injured animals, pet shelters overwhelmed, and damaged ecosystems. We look forward to continuing to partner with MFA throughout our response.”

We will continue to keep the public apprised of important information and our ongoing efforts as we navigate the challenging weeks and months ahead.
